Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure designed to enhance the size, shape, and overall appearance of the breasts using implants. Whether the goal is to restore volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss, correct asymmetry, or simply achieve a fuller, more proportionate figure, breast augmentation offers customizable results tailored to each patient’s aesthetic goals.
Ideal candidates are women in good overall health who wish to enhance their breast size or shape, have naturally small or asymmetrical breasts, or have experienced volume loss due to aging, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Candidates should have realistic expectations and be emotionally prepared for both the surgery and recovery process.
There are two main types of breast implants: saline (filled with sterile saltwater) and silicone (filled with cohesive silicone gel, often preferred for its natural feel). Implants come in various sizes, profiles, and shapes—such as round or teardrop (anatomical)—as well as smooth or textured surfaces. During your consultation, your surgeon will guide you in selecting the implant type, size, and shape that best fits your body and vision.
Implants may be placed through one of several incision locations:
The implants can be positioned either beneath the breast tissue (subglandular) or beneath the chest muscle (submuscular), depending on your anatomy and desired outcome. Your surgeon will recommend the most appropriate approach to achieve the most natural, balanced result.
Recovery from breast augmentation typically involves temporary swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Prescription pain medication and support bras will help ease the healing process. While some changes are noticeable immediately, the final shape and position of the implants will become more defined over several weeks to months as the body adjusts.
The benefits of breast augmentation extend beyond physical enhancement—increasing breast volume and symmetry, improving the fit of clothing and swimwear, and often significantly boosting self-confidence. As with any surgery, potential risks such as implant rupture, capsular contracture, changes in nipple sensation, and infection will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation.
